Tuesday, October 28, 1975 at 7.-00 p.m.

in the Dag Hammarskjold Auditorium

The song of unity, unity for all mankind, constantly sings in the heart of the world. And though many ears remain deaf to this so n g, there is one pl a ce on earth where men and women not only hear it, but strive to make it a living reality f or all; that place is the United Nations.

Music, the universal language, is one of the greatest ambassadors of good-will, peace, unity and understanding throughout the world. On behalf of the world community we are honouring music’s momentous contribution to world unity and peace; at the same time, on behalf of music, we are offering a re-dedication of music’s constant service to humanity.

“O United Nations” ~ Song in dedication

to the United Nations                                                       – Sri Chinmoy

O  United Nations, O U.N.

You are the world-body

Crying for the world-soul.

And you are the earth-life

Longing for oneness-goal.

In the heart of your glowing dream,

Big brothers and brothers small

Shall smile, sing and dance

O Vision- Perfection in all

 Sri Chinmoy

Silent Rededication

Music must serve a purpose; it must be a part of something larger than itself, a part of humanity.

I am a man first, an artist second. As a man, my first obligation is to the welfare of my fellow men. I will endeavour to meet this obligation through music – the means which God has given me – since it transcends language , politics and national boundaries. My contribution to world peace may be small, but at least I will have given all I can to an ideal I hold sacred.

– Pablo Casals

Let music of love spread wings of peace over our planet. No longer pollute our world with poisons of war, poisons of greed, poisons of ignorance.

Let all people, all animals, all beings, earth. air and water live and embrace in love and peace.

Let music of love heal our little globe. Let music of love pour Out into the universe. Let music of love rise from our tiny world and join the Stars of endless milky rivers of light.

– Alan Hovhaness

(Composed especially for the programme “World Unity: The Song of the Soul” – October 28,1975.)

There is no loftier message than to approach the Divinity nearer than other men and to disseminate the divine rays among mankind.

– Beethoven

In my view, the composer is in duty bound to serve Man, the people. He must be a citizen first and foremost. so that his art might consciously extol human life and lead man to a radiant future.

Sergei Prokofiev
