For the past 27 years ambassadors and diplomats from the United Nations community have joined our ceremony in the spirit of oneness among all nations. Runners from around the world present had the great privilege to carry the Torch in many of the home countries represented by the diplomats at the event. They were thrilled to  share some of those special memories.

This year’s launch will observe, support and raise awareness for the

United Nations International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

(6 April 2014).

Countries’  delegations to the United Nations have been invited to represent their country in our Peace Run ceremony by reading a short six-line poem (see below) by Sri Chinmoy in a language native to your country. This will be part of the “Poem Recited in the Most Languages” Guinness World Record. The current record is 146 and our goal is to reach over 150 languages.

Humanitarian and visionary Sri Chinmoy (1931-2007) founded the Peace Run in 1987. This year we are celebrating his 50 years of service to the international community. Sri Chinmoy as an athlete, philosopher, artist,
