On 10 December 1989 I will be in Washington and will, unfortunately, be unable to attend the Global Peace Concert in Manhattan that evening. However, I wish to extend my good wishes and express my congratulations to Sri Chinmoy on the occasion of his being given the Global Man Award.

This award is most appropriate for Sri Chinmoy. His contribution to the world over the last 25 years has touched and transformed many. My inspiring personal experience with his “Lifting Up the World with a Oneness-Heart” series was illustrative of the type of encouragement he offers to the world. His Peace Concerts held throughout the world, his Peace Walks held to inspire the United Nations community and the global unifying “Oneness-Home Peace Run” are further examples of this unique man’s inspired dedication to humanity’s progress.

This past year has been one of profound change in the world’s quest for freedom and oneness. My hopes for the direction of the world community are reflected in Sri Chinmoy’s prophetic message for the year where he predicted that the global efforts towards world harmony would “Quench the ceaseless peace-thirst and compassionately appease the breathless oneness-hunger of the world-family.”

By recognizing Sri Chinmoy as a Global Man, we also honour the best in all of us, for each of us can learn something from the dedicated service of this remarkable person.

I send to all of you ~ sincere best wishes for the coming year.

NEW YEAR 1989 ‘

From time immemorial
Humanity’s heart has been treasuring
Himalayan hope-dreams.

And now, before long,
Divinity’s Soul will descend
With satisfaction-realities on earth
And blessingfully quench
The ceaseless peace-thirst,
And compassionately appease
The breathless oneness-hunger
Of the world-family.

Arise! Awake!
Smile soulfully
At tomorrow’s fulfilment-flooded
Perfection-Dawn.

Dear Mr. Grant.

A number of staff have expressed admiration for the recent talk you gave and we wanted to take this opportunity to let you how how inspirational your speech was to us. We were particularly touched bv the way In which you used yourself as a personal example of being able to grow and change.

For those of us who are American. we took a special pride in the way in which ypu have exemplified the best of our culture, while realizing that you were not just for any one nation, nor even only for UNICEF, but a real member of the United Nations.

Last evening, Sri Chinmoy gave out the enclosed book. When we saw the title. we thought of you immediately and hope that you will enjoy it.

We also wanted to extend an invitation to you to come to the annual Global Peace Concert which will be held in Manhattan on 10 December 1989 at 7:30 p.m. At some point during the concert, Sri Chinmoy will deliver a spiritual message for the upcoming year and be presented with a “Global Man” award for his work. It was at his peace concert this time last year that he delivered the enclosed message for 1989.

We would be deeply honoured if you and your wife would be able to attend at least a portion of this year’s concert and possibly make a brief statement in connection with the “Global Man” presentation. If for some reason vou cannot attend. a few lines you may wish to send would greatly enhance the event. The encouraging message you sent to the special event in April was very warmly received and we shall always value it.

Mav the Holiday Season and the year to come bring you and your wife much happiness.
